A more powerful map drawing tool with Fill, Road and holes

This release brings a major upgrade to the map drawing tool, making it faster and easier to map out properties, roads and surfaces.

New

  • New toolbar with keyboard shortcuts: A vertical toolbar runs down the left edge of the map with Select, Draw, Fill, Road, Select corners and Text tools. Pick what you're drawing with (asphalt, kerb, drains and so on) separately from how you draw it, and use keyboard shortcuts (V, D, F, R, B, T, plus 1–9 for the first nine drawing surfaces) to work faster. Hold Space to pan the map at any time.
  • Fill from the map: Click once to fill an area the map already recognises — a car park, sports pitch, building, road, or the ground between roads and buildings — with a live shaded preview before you click.
  • The Road tool: Click a road to capture the stretch between junctions at its own width or a width you choose. Get the road surface, the pavement beside it, kerb lines or the centre of the pavement, on one side or both. Click stretches one after another to join them into a single area.
  • Draw areas as strips: Choose Strip and a width, then click along the middle to draw parking lanes, footpaths and drives at an even width, shown full-width as you draw.
  • Select and delete corners: Drag a box to select corners on a shape and press Delete to remove them, turning a hand-traced outline with dozens of corners into a clean shape in seconds.
  • Holes and cut-outs: Cut a piece out of an area so a building inside a yard becomes a hole rather than something you trace around. Holes are automatically excluded from area measurements, printouts and quote quantities.

Improved

  • On/off snapping: Snapping to roads and buildings is now a simple on/off switch under the tools.
  • Self-crossing shapes are kept, not lost: A shape whose outline crosses itself now stays on the map with the crossing marked in red, and a Fix button splits it into clean pieces.
  • Easier editing: Clicking a shape of the drawing tool you're using now picks it up for editing instead of starting a new shape.

Fixed

  • Area totals under the map no longer change unexpectedly when two overlapping areas are merged.
